Candy is dandy, but reduced sugar makes this a sweet Halloween treat
It’s officially candy season: you can’t pass a supermarket shelf or a coworker’s desk without being confronted by colorful wrappers full of Halloween candy. Sure, one or two pieces can be a fun treat—especially when they are “fun size” with built-in portion control—but it’s way too easy to reach for another handful out of a coworker’s candy bowl or pick up an extra bag at the store (“It’s totally for the trick or treaters,” I may have fibbed to my husband).
Since lots of conventional Halloween treats can pack in the sugar and (sometimes) frightening ingredients, we found a better option when () sent us their line of five candies to sample. We scoured the nutrition labels and found that many of the items had considerably less sugar than their traditional counterparts (up to 30% less), and we really liked that the items contained no artificial colors or flavors, no GMOs, and no corn syrup or hydrogenated oil. Sure, an apple or a package of dental floss would be a healthier option to toss in trick or treaters’ bags, but you may find that your front porch pumpkin goes missing in protest.
Our favorites were the Candy Coated Chocolate with Peanuts and the Chocolate Caramel Nougat Bar. These sizes are meant for sharing, but the brand is rolling out family-sized bags of miniature treats. Find them at your local drug or grocery stores.
